Fantasy Music 1

5’50” 1981

For flute and prerecorded computer sound

Composed for MIT Experimental Music Studio and dedicated to Fran Carnes.  Recorded on Northeastern Records (LP, NR-220). In those days it took all night to generate the sound at the old MIT studio. Now it takes a few seconds.

...More ingeniously worked than several Synchronisms that come to mind, and it crosses a wider range, from hymn-tune to boogie - The Boston Globe.

...Weaves long, smooth lines around glistening electronic shards, and the mix of texture comes out just right - The Village Voice.

This performance is by Wendy Stern and took place at Julliard.
